1 Introduction

This document defines the architecture of the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite and was developed by member organisations of the Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX). Any organisation wishing to implement this (or any other DDEX standard) is required to apply for an Implementation Licence. Information about the Implementation Licence, its terms and conditions can be found here and and access to an application form can be found on here.

The Sales/Usage Reports defined in the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (DSR) provide a mechanism for licensees (typically digital service providers or DSPs) to report to licensors (typically music rights societies, music publishers, record companies and/or distributors) data regarding the level of sales and/or usage generated from the exploitation of electronic releases containing sound recordings and/or music videos which embody musical works and/or other resources.

This part of the DSR standard (along with Part 8) defines the principles of the structure of all of the standard Sales/Usage Reports defined in other parts of the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (that is, at the time of writing, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 9, Part 10 and Part 11). These other parts define standard Sales/Usage Reports that can be used by different types of licensees to report sales and/or usage. Which part such licensees use is usually determined by the nature of the service they offer to consumers. The standards contained in these various parts are known as profiles.

There is no longer a Part 2: Allowed Value Sets of the DSR standard. It has been superceded by DDEX taking a new approach to the management of allowed value sets. More information about the AVSs in DDEX can be found in Clause 7.14 below.
